SWTOR – The Lore

The lore behind Star wars the old republic took place many thousands of years before the time of Darth Vader. The peace keepers at the time were the republic, if you are totally unfamiliar with Star wars, pretty much like the United Nations in todays world, just a lot more powerful. The Galactic Republic in turn were protected by the legendary Jedi guardians.
The Jedi were a group of highly disciplined and gifted warriors who served as the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy. At that time,The almighty Jedi had only one threat that was worthy of their attention.
The Sith Empire.
The Sith Empire are Ancient enemies of the Jedi guardians, the Sith had always dreamt of galactic domination and an undying need for vengeance against the Jedi. The Sith empire was founded by Dark Jedi or the Fallen Jedi who were banished from the Galactic Republic. After the expulsion , they conquered the world of Korriban and mixed with the native Sith species. They built their empire in isolation, over a period of 2000 years. The Sith empire focus their energy towards the dark side of the force.
The War:
The sith, with hundreds of years of preparation, built an impressive fleet of fearsome troops who feared no death.
With this fleet, the sith began to capture many worlds of the outer rim, slowly threatening the central planets. Eventually, the Galactic republic took note and a full blown war was initiated, a war of humungous proportions, involving two major factions and a host of neutral people who just didn’t want to get in the middle of things.
The brutal war led to unknown Millions from unknown planets to perish during its course.
Manaan, a planet inhabited by the neutral Selkath, was mutilated as its surface structures were destroyed, forcing the Selkath to take shelter in their ocean underworld.
Eventually the war comes to an abrupt end when the Sith Empire takes the republic capital of Coruscant. And the Treaty of Coruscant is passed then by the Republic Senate who were pressured into the controversial treaty by the Sith.
Post War
The galaxy has been clouded with fear and uncertainity as the Sith Emperor goes about with his evil and mysterious plans.
The Republic gathers together its remaining military forces and makes effort to rebuild itself once again in a new Galactic landscape. The treaty of Coruscant is on the verge of being broken completely as the two sides break out into assaults and skirmishes even on peaceful planets where the treaty held good.
It is only a matter of time before the War is official again. And this…is where you enter the game. Will you be a part of the Sith Empire or the Galatic Republic?
SWTOR Planets Guide
Well, Technically there are over a million inhabited worlds and billions of star systems. Here are few planets that are important to the storyline of SWTOR. Read on to know why they are important.
Tython
![Tython-TOR[1] Tython-TOR[1]](../wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Tython-TOR1.jpg)
This planet is the place credited with the birthgrounds of the force. Millenia ago, Scholars descended upon this planet to understand the force better. Unfortunately things got out of hand and the entire Planet was nearly destroyed when an encounter between scholars trying to study the force.
The survivors of this Cataclysm, moved to a nearby planet and formed The jedi order.
Thousands of years later, The Jedi rediscovered the planet was re discovered thousands of years later to uncover the mysteries of the ancient and the earliest of force users.
This planet is also important as it houses the new Jedi temple after the sacking of coruscant by the sith empire.
Little did they know that when they built the temple that they would learn of a new dark secret about their new home planet.
Korriban
![preview[1] preview[1]](../wp-content/uploads/2010/03/preview1.jpg)
Korriban was well known for its severe conditions and harsh climates.
The Sith inhabited the planet. Bold, strong and resilient, they were for surviving in the planet's inhospitable weather conditions(Forgive the Yoda slang
).
The first sith force users came were driven out originally from Tython's early Jedi-order(The scientists who had come in to discover the Force).
If you've read the previous posts, there was a part where we say that the Sith rebuilt themselves quietly before gaining power to match the Republic in the great hyper space war. Three guesses which Planet was their home base . As the good were victorious, the sith gathered a handful of their soldiers and escaped.
And as an iron nail is attracted to a magnet, the new sith empire somehow managed to reach korriban where they were joined in time by the two jedi who had turned dark.. Revan and Malak.
Supreme power can only be handed to one, as the two dark warriors found out and turned on each other and both died. So much for being on the same team.
But Sith were not a recent group of dark force users. The true Sith lord is, and i say "is" as he still lives, a thousand years old. Led by him, the ancient and true Sith Empire waited for the two, Revan and Malak to waste away and took over the reigns of the Korriban.
They set up a Sith academy to train new Sith warriors to reclaim the rule of the universe.
Hutta
![nal+hutta[1] nal+hutta[1]](../wp-content/uploads/2010/03/nal+hutta1.jpg)
This planet i'm sure you could have figured out by now. The planet which is ruled by the fat frog-like creatures with worm eyes we all know as Hutts. I must explain its interesting history.
The planet was originally called Nal Hutta and was ruled by the Evocii before even the formation of the Republic. The Evocii made the terrible mistake of doing business and making deals with the Hutts who were known for their greed.
Things began to go downhill as their whole planet was soon mortgaged and the Hutts, as their home planet Varl became extensively polluted and uninhabitable, moved over to Nal Hutta and began to rule there. The Evocii are now their slaves.
The planet became the hub for criminal activity.
Know this though about the planet- The Hutts were neutral to the war between the Republic and the Sith, But even the best bounty hunters and messengers alike never set foot there unless the need was crucial.
To the eyes of the Hutts, any living thing is fodder.
Sure seems like there's plenty to find, resolve and clean up in this dirty planet of hutta in SWTOR.
We will keep adding content on the planets and the history behind them and any interesting tidbits that maybe present as well. Stay Tuned.
SWTOR Allegiances and Factions – An Introduction
Star Wars the Old Republic has 2 opposing groups and 2 sub groups under them(Not sure why!)
SWTOR Allegiances

Under Allegiances we have the Galactic Republic(The Good guys!
) and the Sith Empire. Now this in itself throws up an interesting question as far as MMOs go. Usually, MMOs tend to stay away from a very clear Good/Bad Faction system to ensure that people choose a side depending on their subtle tastes. But here, the demarcation is clear, do you want to be the good guys or the bad guys? My mind says, obviously people will want to be part of the galactic republic but personally I feel, I will join the Sith empire just to counter the expected domination by the Galactic Empire. Then , I think maybe there are enough people like me who will join the Sith just to be "cool"
....Totally clueless...Will be cool to find out if people like the bad guys or the good guys in MMOs
The official story behind the Allegiances goes like this(from the official holonet
Allegiances
As the most advanced civilization in the known galaxy, the Galactic Republic has stood united for more than 21,000 years. Protected by the legendary Jedi Order, the Republic has defeated all its enemies, including the original Sith Empire in the Great Hyperspace War. Rising from the ashes of that defeat, however, and led by an unnaturally long-lived Dark Emperor, the Sith rebuilt and returned to exact their vengeance. The Great War between Empire and Republic raged for years until a reprieve from constant conflict was defined in the Treaty of Coruscant. The tension between these two fundamentally opposed superpowers has not abated, though, and the return to war is widely
SWTOR Factions
Then we have the SWTOR factions,

The Jedi Order(Again, the good guys) and the SITH Lords(Ze Bad guys)
As per the official definition of Factions .
Factions
Across the galaxy, dozens of smaller alliances have come together. Interstellar crime syndicates, multi-planet economic coalitions, and fleets of spacefaring nomads are plentiful and varied. Whether through political machinations, underworld activities, or sheer military might, many of these factions have grown to have significant prominence and power.
In its current form, I am not able to figure out the difference between an Allegiance and a faction. Both have a team rooting for the good and bad guys seperately. The only possible option I see is the possibility that new factions maybe added at a later stage that will offer allegiance to one or the other side.
